The unit HLTHPS006 - Assist Clients with Medication provides learners with the skills and knowledge necessary to support clients with medication in a range of care settings, including home care, residential care, and disability care. This course covers the legal, ethical, and procedural frameworks surrounding medication administration and the roles and responsibilities of care workers.
Learners will develop the ability to assist with different types of medications using various methods of administration. Through both simulated and real-life scenarios, participants will practice safe medication administration, including pre- and post-administration checks, infection control measures, and accurate documentation. Key areas of focus include understanding the "Five Rights" of medication administration, responding to contingencies, and ensuring compliance with relevant workplace policies and procedures.
To successfully complete the course, learners must demonstrate competence in assisting at least five clients with medication, covering at least five different types of medications and using at least three different modes of administration. Practical assessments will be completed under supervision in both simulated and real workplace environments.
